St. Xavier’s High School follows the traditional House System. There are four Houses:

Aqua or Water is an inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless substance which is the main constituent of Earth’s hydrosphere and the fluids of most living organisms. It is vital for all known forms of life. Water is considered a purifier in most religions. Faiths that incorporate ritual washing (ablution) include Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and many others. In Christianity, holy water is water that has been sanctified by a priest for the purpose of baptism, the blessing of persons, places, and objects, or as a means of repelling evil. Water is respected as the source of life.

Ignis or Fireis a glowing light. Fire has been used by humans in rituals, in agriculture for clearing land, for cooking, generating heat and light, for signaling, propulsion purposes, smelting, forging, incineration of waste, cremation, and as a weapon or mode of destruction.Fire represents the intense courage and risk required to be authentic. To be authentic is to burn away all those masks, fears and ways of being that do not feed your soul. Fire is the perfect metaphor for what can happen when we step through our fears and step into our purpose. Fire represents the energy of courageously stepping towards transformation.

Terra or Earth is the nurturer, the bearer of life. Just like the mother, it is the first object of attachment that we encounter in the objective world. Earth holds us like a mother, it nurtures us like a mother does, providing food, chemicals, wood, and answering our every need in a seemingly omnipotent way, akin to the vision an infant has of its all-powerful mother until it has grown enough to fend for itself. The Earth is associated with the qualities of patience, thoughtfulness, practicality, hard work, and stability. The earth element is also the creator and the beholder which seeks to draw all things together within itself, in order to bring harmony, rootedness and constancy.

Ventus or the wind drives and tosses giant ships on the seas as if they were toys. Wind, especially at sea, evokes the fierceness of war, raging into every crevice and overturning everything in its path. Calm it down, however, and it becomes a gentle, cooling, refreshing breeze. Gentle winds can bring pleasant fragrances and invigorating fresh air.Like the wind, spirit is invisible. A person cannot see it move or work. However, one can see the effect of what the Spirit does. One can see how it acts on things—just as the wind going through a tree full of leaves. One cannot see the wind, but everyone has seen how it makes the tree’s leaves and the branches sway.

The house serves as a platform for the students to exhibit their skill in various activities. Every House celebrates a Biennial House Function which comprises of a play, a ballet, and solo performances along with a House Report which presents the achievements of the House. Inter-House matches are held throughout the year for the coveted Sports Shield.

To Foster Team spirit among house members and to promote talent Inter-House Cultural events and held throughout the year.

Trophies and Awards are given for excellent performance at the end of the year.
